Before investing a lot of time building a product that sucks, I spent some time researching and learning from what my competitors are doing right and wrong.

Here’s the run down on my competition:

  1. LeadScrape:

  • Cons:
    • Not Online
      • Windows only
    • Exports to csv only
    • Does not update contacts
    • Focuses soley on aggregating a collection of businesses by area, not updating an existing collection
  • Pros:
    • Cheap $97 lifetime access
  1. LeadResearcher Pro:

    • Not Online
      • Windows only
    • Exports to csv only
    • Focuses solely on retrieving emails
    • Exensive! $1995 yearly subscription cost
  • Pros:
    • Reputable brand that has delivered products in the e-data collection market for years
    • Good testimonials
    • Great SEO and SEM… probably have an expensive SEM campaign running
  1. SugarCRM Hint:

  • Cons:
    • Exports to csv only
    • Extensively featured CRM. Not all customer want to commit themselves into a CRM or lock themself into one
    • Steep learning curve and scraping info is no the main priority of app
    • Expensive monthly membership cost
  • Pros:
    • Good quality results
    • Reputable and trusted brand

How my product will stand:

  • Complete Online solutions making it platform agnostic
  • Low monthly membership plan that undercuts competitors price points
  • Mobile first design to allow user access on the go
  • Simple & straightforward design for ease of access
  • Ability to export to csv and vCard format.
    • Apple and other platforms only accept vCards making my product far more compatible. vCards can also store images (profile pics or business logos), while csv cannot.

Overall, I’m really glad I took the time to research my competition. I learned a lot about what features to focus on to stand out from my competitors, so that I can offer a more compelling product.
